Stuff Found in Miami

This is a photoblog of the crazy, hilarious and sometimes unbelievable things found in and around Miami, FL.

Clearing off my bookshelf! Less than 2 days left on my homeschool/ kids' book auctions (I won't spam with this, promise.) http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/andierosecreations_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZ

Nothing to see here, move along...

This photo was taken behind the auto parts store where my mechanic usually fixes my car. I've never seen the sign before, as there were usually cars in the way that needed fixing.

You really have to love Little Havana. :)

A vine.

It's been a while since I posted one of these, and this picture deserves a little back story.

One of the homeschooling families at our local park group has a satellite dish awkwardly placed onto their roof. Because of this, a vine had repeatedly grown behind a drain pipe and wrapped itself around the various wires and tubing, as vines are wont to do. And every so often, the dad in the family would go out and hack the vine down so that it wouldn't ruin anything electrical, but he was never able to really reach its roots, so it always grew back.

This went on for quite some time, with the vine growing back and the dad cutting it down...

... until the vine finally outsmarted him.

That's right. It grew IN A KNOT around the electrical wiring. Take that, chop-happy Dad! As is obvious by the photo, the Dad had the last word, but he was so in awe that he brought it for all of us to ooh and ahh over at the park.

You really do kind of have to admire its tenacity, am I right? :)

Note the flags.

Merry Christmas, Miami style!

One of the best things about living in Miami is the temperate weather year-round. Except for the hurricanes, but we try to repress those from memory whenever possible. However, there are days when you really long for a blizzard or two to create ambience. For example, the day after Christmas 2007, when this photo was taken at Bayside Marketplace. Click to enlarge.

Yes, those tourists strolling by the boats are indeed in shorts and flip-flops. Y'all have no idea how many Christmas pool parties I got invited to this year. People show up in Santa bikinis. People put leis and hula skirts on the Christmas lawn ornaments. It's just not right.
